Recruiting Research Participants

Can a HSB listserv be used to recruit research participants?

What do I need to use the listserv?

In order to use the listserv for recruitment purposes you need to:

  • include your recruitment notice and the dates on which you will post your recruitment notice in your application for ethics approval, and
  • ask for permission from the manager of the listserv you will be using.

You cannot post a notice on the listserv until you have received approval from the appropriate research ethics committee:

  • for undergraduate students it is the HSB Research Ethics Committee, and
  • for graduate and faculty it is the Conjoint Faculties Research Ethics Board.

Every listserv contains the following message:

Subscribers (i.e., Haskayne School of Business students, staff and faculty) are welcome to post notices of HSB seminars, workshops, postdoctoral opportunities, calls for papers, thesis or dissertation research opportunities, request for research assistants, requests for research participants, graduate student meetings, policy changes, teaching excellence awards or similar types of information.  Subscribers are asked to ensure that their postings are useful and relevant to the academic work of students in HSB.

Subscribers may also receive requests to participate in research studies.  Your decision to read these notices, and participate, is voluntary and will not influence your academic work in HSB.
