Fees and funding

At Haskayne, we offer generous financial assistance to our students in addition to an annual Graduate Studies Open Scholarship Competition. scholarships and fellowships are awarded on the basis of academic standing and demonstrated potential for advanced study and research. Full-time doctoral students in the first five years of their program are eligable to hold scholarships.

Funding

The Haskayne School of Business (HSB) endeavours to provide a package of funding to all newly admitted PhD students requiring assistance. Our baseline goal is to provide a minimum of $25,000 a year throughout the first four years of a student's program. In exceptional cases this amount may be increased, particularly where a student's performance greatly exceeds expectations. Continued financial support is of course contingent on the student remaining in good academic standing and making acceptable progress towards completion.

This support will normally be comprised of approximately 50% ($10,000) in funding provided by the student's advisor from his/her research funds, and the remaining from other sources. The latter include HSB; Graduate Studies and University scholarships; Faculty of Graduate Studies Scholarships (FGSS); Graduate Assistantships - Teaching (GAT); Graduate Assistantships - Research (GAR); and outside funding such as Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Fellowships. All qualifying students will be expected to apply for external funding from sources such as SSHRC so that HSB and University funds can be freed up for other deserving students. The precise mixture of "other sources" of funding may vary over time as we identify new sources of funding available given a student's progress, field of study, etc.

While we make every effort to ensure continuity of funding, all commitments are subject to modification in light of circumstances beyond our control, such as budget cuts, the departure of a sponsoring faculty member, or loss of research funding by same. Should such modifications become necessary, every effort will be made to minimize the impact on students by identifying alternative methods of funding.

These forms can be downloaded to your computer. A separate application is not required for most of the scholarships and fellowships, but students are advised to read the Awards and Financial Assistance section of the Faculty of Graduate Studies section of the Calendar on-line to determine their eligibility for these awards and whether or not a separate application is required.
