Admissions

The Executive MBA program is designed to benefit experienced managers and professionals. Typical candidates are individuals who see the need to develop a broader skill base and stronger general management capabilities in order to enhance their strategic leadership capabilities and their careers.

Admission criteria

To be considered for admission to the Alberta/Haskayne Executive MBA program, an applicant should meet the criteria in one of the following categories:

  1. Possession of a four-year undergraduate degree (Bachelor) or a graduate degree (Master, PhD) or a professional degree (e.g., Medicine, Law, Architecture, Nursing, etc) from a recognized university with a minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA in the final two years of the program and seven years of work experience.  Applicants in this category may apply to have the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) requirement waived, or
  2. Possession of a university degree as described above with less than a 3.0/4.0 GPA in the final two years of the program, a minimum of seven years of work experience and a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT exam, or
  3. In the absence of a university degree as described above, ten years of work experience and a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT exam.  

Applicants for whom English is not a first language must also demonstrate a minimum score of 100 on the internet version of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or 7 on the academic version of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

Application components

An application for admission to the Alberta/Haskayne Executive MBA program will include:

  1. Completion of the online application form and payment of the application fee.  The application fee is $100 CND for Canadian citizens and permanent residents and $130 CND for international applicants.  
  2. A current resume listing business experience, academic achievements, professional designations, and community involvement.
  3. A written statement outlining career and learning objectives.  
  4. Two (2) reference letters submitted directly to the Alberta/Haskayne Executive MBA Admissions Committee by the appraisers. Individuals writing letters on behalf of an applicant should be in senior positions and qualified to evaluate your business skills and leadership potential.   5. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.  Transcripts must be sent by the Registrar of the institution to the Alberta/Haskayne Executive MBA Admissions Committee.  If the transcripts and degree certificates are in a language other than English, official translated copies are also required.
  6. A personal interview with a member of the EMBA admissions committee.
  7. GMAT and TOEFL scores, if required by the admissions committee.
