Chad joined the Haskayne School of Business as an Assistant Professor in Management Information in 2007 and holds a cross-appointment with the Faculty of Medicine's Department of Community Health Sciences where he is the Research & Innovation Lead with the Health Innovation and Information Technology Centre (HiiTeC). Chad received a BSc (Applied Mathematics, 1996) and MBA (Information Systems, 2000) from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a PhD (Management Information Systems, 2006) from the Haskayne School of Business.
Chad has developed and taught various courses in technology management, information systems, project management and entrepreneurship at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Athabasca University, University of San Francisco and most recently at the University of Calgary.
Chad teaches the core Management Information Systems (MGIS 601) course in the full-time and part-time MBA program and co-teaches within the Executive MBA program and within the Faculty of Medicine’s Health Services Research program. Chad’s areas of expertise focus on the management of technical innovation within organizations and the role of Request for Proposals, Project Management and Impact Assessments, especially as it relates to the environmental consequences of IT.
Chad's research interests focus on the impact of information technology on professional practice. In particular, this work considers the implications for design and innovation within a professional environment and the key entrepreneurial activities associated with the use of technology within these professional contexts. Chad has published in leading journals including Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, and the Ivey Business Journal. Chad recently received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada, Management, Business and Finance Research Grant, to support this work.
