Brent is an instructor in the Operations Management area. He has been teaching at the Haskayne School of Business since 2003. Brent graduated with distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University's Honours Bachelor of Business Administration program in 1997, majoring in Management Accounting, with a minor in Economics. He obtained the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation from The Society of Management Accountants of Ontario in 2000. In 2004 Brent completed the MBA Thesis program at University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business, majoring in Operations Management. Prior to joining Haskayne, Brent worked in the automotive industry with Linamar, the injection molding industry with Husky Injection Molding Systems, and the ERP software industry as a product specialist with Navision Software (now Microsoft Dynamics) and as an implementation project leader with CSB Systems. He has also instructed courses at Mount Royal University and for the Society of Management Accountants of Alberta's Strategic Leadership Program.
Brent teaches in the areas of Operations Management and Management Studies, primarily for the undergraduate program. He has successfully implemented internet based computer simulations into all of his courses and continues to incorporate various experiential learning exercises into the core and elective classes that he teaches.
Brent's research interests focus on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and innovative experiential classroom exercises. His work has been published in the International Journal of Operations and Production Management (IJOPM), Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education (DSJIE), and the International Journal of Information and Operations Management Education (IJIOME).
Brent has won numerous awards for his teaching, research, and service to date. His four teaching awards include receiving both the MBA Society and Commerce Undergraduate Society Outstanding Teaching & Learning awards in the same academic year (2008-2009). On the research side, Brent’s paper “ERP implementation at SMEs: analysis of five Canadian cases”, won the prestigious Outstanding Paper Award from the International Journal of Operations & Production Management (IJOPM) for 2010. Finally, in recognition of his years of dedicated service as the faculty advisor for the business school’s largest student club, Brent received the Faculty Superior Service Award in 2010.
