A University of Calgary student association is receiving ‘total’ support from a major energy company.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economy Students’ Association (ISEEESA) annual networking dinner will be sponsored by Total E&P Canada.

ISEEESA’s dinner on campus, on February 29 this year, typically attracts more than 400 people to support numerous energy-and-environment sustainability activities and special projects for University of Calgary students in all disciplines.

“We are extremely excited to have Total support us in bringing climate issues to the forefront of the minds of students, the corporate community, and faculty and staff at the University of Calgary,” says Lauren Rooney, ISEEESA’s president. “This event is key to engaging students with the energy industry and preparing them to step into the roles of the next innovators, CEOs and policy makers.”

Calgary-based Total E&P Canada is making a capital investment of $20 billion in Alberta energy projects over the next decade. As the company grows, it plans to hire an additional 1,300 employees by 2020 – many of them university graduates.

“We are keen on having presence on campus and recruiting the best students,” says Albert Elliott, Total E&P’s vice-president of human resources, communications and administration. “The ISEEESA annual networking dinner has been a great medium to meet a diverse pool of students.”

The keynote speaker at this year’s dinner is Boyd Cohen, Vancouver-based co-author (with Hunter Lovins) of Climate Capitalism: Capitalism in the Age of Climate Change. His talk will focus on helping to lead communities, cities and companies on the journey toward a profitable low-carbon economy.

University of Calgary executives and faculty, along with leaders in the private and public sectors, will share tables with some of the university’s top students at the event, which sold out last year. To purchase tickets, visit www.iseeesa.com or contact:  info@iseeesa.com
